Week Six: Back to the Square Knot

Image
Well if you've been keeping up with my lovely blog, you would know some of my struggles that I have faced.  Well guess what, I am still struggling.  The world of tying knots is a tedious and long process.  Over the course of the last two weeks I added another 196 knots.  That bring is to a new total of 2,210 knots, that's quite a few I do say so myself. So yet again, I struggled with what to do next with my macrame wall hanging, and once again I changed gears and untied 72 knots. After that I began yet another row of double half hitch knots.  But wouldn't you know it, I messed that up too!  I'm totally thriving at this point in my life.  I decided to create a straight line of knots from the lowest spiral but what happened you might wonder? I started at the far end four inches too high (seriously Morgan, get it together).  Anyways, moving on,  I untied these knots (which was 26 more) and started in the middle and worked my way out instead. ...

Week Five: Finishing the Spiral

After yet another two weeks of our genius hour I have come closer to finishing my lovely macrame hanging.  These two weeks were spent finishing the spirals which I blogged about in my last entry, and doing my best to make the angles even.  I've added another 220 knots, which brings the total to 2,014 knots. If you read my last blog I included a video showing how to create these spirals, but what the video doesn't explain is that every spiral comes out to be a different length.  This is due to them being tighter or looser than others.  Just tying the second half of the spirals took me about 2 hours (counting the time it took me to count knots and untie any mistakes or bad knots).  I've spent probably another hour just loosening and tightening the spirals to create consistent angles. Spiral Square Knot Steps Finished Spiral Square Knots To create even rows, you will have to pull and push your knots together.  Some rows will have to be longer, w...

Week Four: Half Square Knot Spiral

This week I added another 438 knots, which brings us to a new total of *drumroll* 1,794 knots!  Thank goodness I've found a way to not rope-burn my fingertips every time I pull a rope through.  As for what I did this last week, it maybe wasn't as much as I was hoping to accomplish.  It has been an extremely crazy week for me, with it being volleyball divisionals coming up (and Halloween because I am still a child).  So that set me behind just a little bit from where I wanted to be. As with every new row of knots that I've done, there is the struggle of deciding what I am going to do next.  Sometimes it takes a few dozen knots before your decide that you don't like it, which is exactly what I did.  I had a plan on how I wanted to do my next row and had gotten a few dozen knots completed.  It was then that I thought, "Um, I don't like this... I'm gonna change it."  So I did.  It feels like a total waste of time to undo so many knots, but I...
