Week Eight: Hang It Up


I decided to add just one more blog to show what my macrame looks like hanging up in my bedroom.  During the process of making the hanging, I was beginning to get concerned whether or not I was going to like it.  Now that it's up, I'm definitely happy with the decisions I made in creating it.  The size and design are nearly perfect in my eyes.  To hang it, I used a monkey hook picture hanger, this was convenient because I didn't have to find a stud to hammer into to support the weight.  I decided to hang my macrame above my bed in the center of the wall.  I included a picture of it in it's final resting place.  Maybe sometime down the road, if I ever find the time, I will make another (smaller) macrame wall hanging.

Shark Tank: Charcoal Drawing

After doing macrame for my last genius hour, I decided to do something a little more challenging for myself.  So, I will be charcoal drawing for my next project.  I chose to do this because it is something that I have never done before and I think that it will challenge me and be hard for me to make something I love.  I discussed my plans as to what I would be drawing in my Shark Tank Pitch. To start, I went and got the basics from Walmart.  There was a simple sketch set that had everything I needed to start in it what wasn't in there I also found; charcoal sticks, kneaded eraser, blending sticks, sealer, and a sketchbook.  I also plan on ordering some charcoal pencils as well as chalk pencils. Week Seven: Next Canvas

Just as I was hoping, I was able to finish the first canvas of my cloud drawing!  While it isn't perfect, I decided to get a start on the other because I can always go back and make small changes.  So that's what I did.  I finished the clouds and moved onto the sky of the next canvas. While the second canvas requires less detailing it has a lot of shading.  Being mostly sky, it was really time consuming to evenly shade the sky, sooo… I gave up.  I just got it done so I could go back and darken it later.  As with the first canvas, I traced around the basic shape of my clouds to go over later and refine.  I found that shading became a lot easier by using my hand, this made the process a lot faster. Week One: Abstract Realism

Well, I finished my first drawing. YAYYY!!!  Earlier this week I spent an hour scrolling through pictures on Pinterest trying to find the perfect thing for me to draw.  It seems a little ridiculous to look so hard for a picture, but I wanted to love it.  Soooooo, yes, I am too picky. It took me awhile to decide on how to go about the drawing because I can't draw a chart on the canvas which is how I have always drawn.  What I did was draw the rough sketch out onto paper in pen and then transferred it over to my canvas by shining light through it. Once I was done drawing the basic shape onto the canvas I started shading.  This took me about three hours to complete and I am very proud of the finished product.  While there are still disproportions in the structure of the face, it is the first time I have ever tried to draw a person.  So not only is drawing with charcoal new, but also drawing people.  Admittingly, I have never even tr...
